Windows Phone 8 finally gets Temple Run, bunch of other gaming titles
Temple Run, the popular "endless running" game, has finally come to Windows Phone 8. Microsoft made the announcement via a blog post.
As belated as the game's entry is on the platform, it is not without controversy. Temple Run for Windows Phone is being criticised for its hardware and software requirements, namely, 1GB RAM and Windows Phone 8, which means that only a handful of phones - HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 820 as well as Lumia 920 - can play the game. Users running an older version of Windows Phone, or having lesser RAM on their phone are complaining about being left out.
The launch of original Temple Run on Windows Phone 8 comes at a time when Imangi Studios has released multiple successors to the game on various platforms. Biggest success on those has been Temple Run 2, that became the fastest growing mobile game of all times, when it clocked over 50 million downloads in just 13 days.
Other variants of the game include Temple Run: Brave and the recently launched Temple Run: Oz.
Microsoft also announced the launch of other gaming titles on the platform. The highlight of the bunch is Gravity Guy 2, sequel to the hugely popular Gravity Guy. For the next month, the sequel is available only on Windows Phone. Other titles arriving are already proven successes on other platforms, like Chaos Rings, 6th Planet, and Orcs Must Survive. Microsoft notes that all these are available for Windows Phone 8, except Chaos Rings, which is available only for Windows Phone 7.5 devices.
The addictive mega-hit running game Temple Run is now available for Windows Phone 8. Grab it here. (The app was just published, so it might be a few hours until you see it in the Store or in search.)
At the risk of stating the obvious, Temple Run sets you off on one of the mobile gaming world’s most heart-pounding challenges. Swipe to turn, jump and slide as you race over obstacles and whip around corners on a pathway resembling China’s Great Wall, all on your way to capturing hidden treasure. Collect coins, buy power-ups, and see just how far your feet can take you, with the beat of native drums setting your pace. A must-have game for your Windows Phone. (And don’t forget about all the other new arrivals I posted on this morning.)
